Bespoke Student Leadership Trainings

Schools who are members of the Citizen Schools Alliance get take advantage of free student leadership trainings and programmes through the academic year. A Citizen Schools Organiser works closely with schools to plan a programme to fit their needs - be it a training as an enrichment programme, or training with a particular group of harder to reach young people. In St Charles' Catholic Sixth Form, twenty students received bespoke leadership training and then planned and implemented their own listening campaign to identify what issues were of concern to their student body. It lead to members of their team speaking in support of migrant's rights to 20,000 people packed into London's Trafalgar Square. The key is that the training is applied. We don't do one day intensive trainings and walk away. Trainings are always built into extended, embedded curriculum or enrichment programmes.

Applied Trainings Built into the Curriculum as part of Citizenship, Enrichment Programmes or Extended Projects

From September we are working in partnership with Citizen Schools Alliance member school Sir George Monoux College (London Borough of Waltham Forest) to develop an applied training programme which delivers the school's Baccalaureate programme for those students looking for an edge and unrivalled real-life skills and community leadership experience. Citizen Schools organisers will collaborate with senior College teachers and tutors to design a leadership curriculum for students, who then plan and implement their own projects as part of this curriculum - projects which are focused around achieving change. It's about making learning real-life, relevant and engaging.

Community Leadership Trainings for all ages 16+

Being a Citizen Schools Alliance member means almost everyone can benefit from community leadership training. London Citizens' trainings in Community Organising are the very same training Barack Obama experienced when community organising in Chicago - so why not start your school on a path of positive change? Teachers, senior leaders, support staff, parents, carers and older students are all welcome to join. 2000 people have now received this training, and have gone on to lead community campaigns to make change happen. Participants on the courses work with a diverse range of community leaders from a range of organisations and groups - churches, mosques, trade unions, community groups and universities included. There are at least two 5-day and four 2-day trainings every year. To find out dates, more information, and book your places - please click here to visit London Citizens main site.
