Citizen Schools Pathway - Partners

the Citizen Schools Pathway

The Citizen Schools Alliance comprises schools, youth groups and universities who are all members of London Citizens - a network of like-minded institutions who work together with their communities as active citizens for change & the common good, supported by professional community organisers.

The London Citizens team of community organisers are involved in the Pathway by providing training through the course (particularly the community organising elements), by supporting schools' needs on a local level, and helping organise regional events.

One key element of the Citizen Schools Pathway is the development by the school of a ‘Citizenship Manifesto’, a process engaged in as participants and students get a feel for compelling citizenship education through planning, implementing and experiencing the project. Developed and trialled at the Citizenship Foundation, the manifesto is a public declaration of how a school delivers citizenship education: within the classroom and the curriculum, through mechanisms such as student voice across the life of the school, and in the way that it engages with the local community and wider society, through, for instance supporting community involvement, volunteering and charitable giving programmes.

The Citizenship Foundation has produced a toolkit to enable any school to create a Citizenship Manifesto - click here to access this.

Citizen Schools is an initiative of The Citizen Organising Foundation, registered charity no. 1107264
